INTERNSHIP COORDINATOR (P5634)

This is a temporary leave part-time position effective until September 30, 2020: 28 hours per week; (4-days workweek, Monday to Thursday).
Reporting to the Department Administrator, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the efficient operations of the internship program for the Masters of Environmental Assessment by facilitating the internship search for students and overseeing the internship placements.
- Meet with students individually or in groups in matters relating to internship procurement, retention, and trouble-shooting.
- Respond to both internal and external enquiries about internship programme.
- Screen students for internships.
- Coordinate, moderate and be the student resource for graduate internship activity “Getting Ready for the EA Internship”.
- Maintain employer database and database tracking placement of students.
- Develop links with new employers and devise strategies to develop number of placements and placement rates.
- Review internship proposals and draft agreements
- Develop and run workshops for students on job search skills.
- Liaise with all levels of government, NGOs and private sector companies conducting environmental assessments, during internship placements. Conduct on-site visits with employers and interns.
- Contribute to the procedural assessment and evaluation of internship reports and defenses.
- Create and disseminate informational and promotional documents and maintain internship website.
- Devise strategies and promotional projects and events that will promote the program.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Geography or a similar discipline two to four years of experience in the placement of internship and/or co-op students with the governmental entities and corporations.
- Work experience as an environmental assessment practitioner highly desirable.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with job search skills and interview techniques.
- Knowledge of the federal and provincial government co-op programs; knowledge of occupational /career opportunities in all relevant private sectors.
- Capacity to network with the business and academic community and to coach and counsel students as well as employers.
- Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and spoken French.
- Good knowledge (Intermediate Level) of Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Web design and maintenance skills are assets.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines; proven ability to work in a team environment.
- Accuracy, attention to details, and good judgment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license in order to travel in and around Ontario and Quebec, particularly Ottawa, Quebec City and Montreal.
- Willingness and ability to work outside normal working hours during peak periods.
