Course sequences for Aerospace Engineering
Engineering students must follow the approved course sequence for their program to ensure graduation after four years (8 terms) of study. Registering for the sections for your program means no time conflicts or problems with your courses.
All students in engineering programs must complete all 200-level courses in their programs prior to commencing courses at the 400-level.
Students must choose technical electives from the approved list in the Undergraduate Calendar. Topics offered in these courses change over time to ensure your program curriculum remains relevant. Some technical electives may not be offered in a given academic year.
Capstone Design Project courses (INDU, MECH, and AERO 490) extends over two academic terms.
Aerospace Engineering Course Sequences
Option A: Aerodynamics & Propulsion
Option B: Aerospace Structures & Materials
Option C: Avionics & Aerospace Systems
AERO 290 is a new course that is offered in the winter semester of the 2nd year and is a pre-requisite to AERO 390.
Students who have been admitted/transferred to the AERO program (any option) after FALL 2018 are required to take AERO 290 as part of their program requirements. As a result, those same students are now required to take 3 credits less of AERO Option Electives.
Students who have been admitted/transferred to the AERO program (any option) prior to FALL 2018 are NOT required to take AERO 290 as part of their program requirements. As such their technical elective requirements do not change.
Do you need to re-sequence?
You can go off the recommended sequence when:
- You must repeat a course
- You wish to take summer courses
- You would like to reduce your course load (full-time status implies 12cr per term)
- You need to go part-time
- You did not secure a work-term (Co-op)
Please note that going off sequence may cause you to run into scheduling conflicts in the future.
We strongly recommend that you redesign your course plan by using our Program Planning Template (5yr).
When building your new course plan, please pay attention to course pre-requisites and co-requisites requirements. For your convenience, our updated sequences include a table on the second page displaying the pre-requisites, co-requisites and term offerings specific to your program.
For additional details, you can also review the complete list of MIAE course offerings and use the class search to view course term availability. You can view detailed course descriptions, including pre-requisite and co-requisite requirements in the Undergraduate Calendar.
NOTE: Co-op students must submit a Change of Sequence request form (available through COMPASS) if the sequence modifications result in a change of work-term placement.
If you choose to go off sequence, create a revised sequence and then meet with us to verify your plan!
