My practice revolves around the themes of storytelling, loss and memory as well as conversations surrounding my identity. I am interested in the use of different mediums, allowing for a very diverse array of works. In my process I use images from my personal archives as a research source for the execution of my works, oftentimes culminating in sculpture, performance, video or installations.
Melina Vera J (b. 1990, Montreal) is a multidisciplinary Latinx Canadian artist raised in Medellin, Colombia. She is currently based in Tio'tia:ke, otherwise known as Montréal. She completed a DEC in Communications, Media and Studio Arts at Vanier College. She holds a BFA in Photography from Concordia University where she has received a Special Project Grant from the Fine Arts Student Alliance and the Mildred and Margot Lande Graduate Scholarship In Photography.
