Art History first year courses

You should also download and print your program guide and use it to keep track of your degree requirements.
New students are not required to obtain advising prior to registration. Although advising is not required, students wishing to see an academic advisor may arrange an appointment by contacting the Department of Art History.
If you are attending an advising appointment, please be sure you have all of your relevant admission documents with you at the appointment. Please also note that advising during the months of July and August is limited.

Please note: Students are required to take ARTH 200 in their first year of study. All other history courses can be taken in any order they choose. Students are encouraged to take a variety of 200 and 300 level art history courses, those which interest them and allow them to discover the breadth of the discipline. Students are recommended to only take 400 level art history courses in their last year of study.

Since places in ALL studio courses are extremely competitive, students are strongly urged to begin registering for their courses as soon as possible. Although advising is not required, students wishing to see an academic advisor may contact either the Department of Art History and the Department of Studio Arts (514 848-2424 ext. 4262 or 4263).

A “studio elective” is defined as any course chosen from among the following disciplines: ARTX, CERA (ceramics), DRAW (drawing), FBRS (fibres), IMCA (intermedia/cyberarts), PHOT (photography)*, PTNG (painting), PRIN (print media), SCUL (sculpture).
*Note: PHOT 210 is the only photography course available to students enrolled in a program offered by the Department of Studio Arts other than the Photography program. All other PHOT courses are reserved for Major in Photography students only.
