Information for New Students

Newly admitted students:

Congratulations on your acceptance to the Faculty of Fine Arts at Concordia University!

New students

Don’t miss the many Orientation activities designed to help you dive into the university experience and feel ready for your first year.

Now that you have your offer, follow these important steps to confirm your acceptance.

STEP 1 - Accept your offer of admission

Admission to Fine Arts programs is highly competitive.You must be sure to officially accept your offer of admission, pay the confirmation deposit & register by the date indicated in your admission.

To accept your offer of admission:

  1. Log in to your Student Centre.
  2. Go to the Admissions menu and click on accept my offer of admission
  3. Go to the Make a Payment function and pay the Admissions Confirmation Deposit.

Once you have paid the deposit, the computer system will run a batch process within the next 24 hours at which time you will be ready to enroll, provided you have previously attended your required BFA Touchstone Orientation.

STEP 2 – Attend your BFA Touchstone Orientation as soon as possible and preferably before registration

BFA Touchstone Orientation dates and registration

This session provides clarifications on the next steps after receiving your Offer of Admission, including:

  • Registration process and academic regulations/important dates
  • Understanding your BFA Program & what courses to take
  • Information on Transfer Credits
  • Accessing your Student Centre via the Student Hub
  • Support Services & other Events for NEW Students

STEP 3 - Meet with an academic advisor

Advising procedures vary depending on the program to which you have been admitted. Verify if your program requires advising.

STEP 4 - Register for courses

Registration Start-Date for new students will be listed on your Student Hub (normally the 3rd week of April for FALL entry admits).

Students admitted prior to this registration start-date, must wait for that date to begin registering for courses:

  • Students should accept their Offer of Admission & Pay Confirmation Fee before the registration start-date if they received their Offer of Admission in advance of this.
    Attend the BFA Touchstone Orientation
  • Students admitted after this date may begin registering for courses immediately and attend the BFA Touchstone Orientation as soon as possible.
  • Given the high demand for fine arts courses, we recommend you begin enrolling for courses as soon as you are eligible

STEP 5 - Attend your specific Department Orientation

Department Orientations Fall 2023

Students will receive ZOOM invites directly from their Departments.

Design

 

 

The Department of Design & Computation Arts will be holding a MANDATORY orientation session in the fall class DART 261 section A and B, Intro to Design Studies - Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., location in the classroom TBD. 

During this session, students will learn about the specific program requirements, meet the Chair and Undergraduate Program Director.

 

Computation Arts

 

 

The Department of Design & Computation Arts will be holding a MANDATORY orientation session in the fall class CART 253 section B, Creative Computation I,  Tuesday September 5, 2023, from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., location in the classroom TBD and CART 253 section A, Creative Computation I, Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 1:15 pm to 2:15 p.m., location in the classroom TBD.

During this session, students will learn about the specific program requirements, meet the Chair and Undergraduate Program Director.

 
Cinema
(all programs)
New student orientation will take place on Thursday August 31, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., location TBD.  
Art Education The Department of Art Education will be holding an orientation session on Tuesday, September 12 at from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in EV-2.645.  
Contemporary Dance Orientation for new students in Contemporary Dance will take place on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., in MB-7.255.  
Art History There will be a MANDATORY orientation session for all newly admitted students to the Art History programs. The orientation will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, location TBD. Students who are not able to attend in person can join via Zoom. Please contact art.history@concordia.ca for more information.  
Music
(all programs)
Orientation for new students in Music programs will take place on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., in MB-8.265.  
Studio Arts
(all programs)
The Department of Studio Arts will be holding a strongly recommended orientation session on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m., location TBD. During this session, students will learn about the different Studio Arts areas and about their specific program requirements.  

Theatre
(all programs)

 

 

 

Orientation for NEW students in Theatre will take place on Monday, September 11, 2023 in the Concordia Theatre, Henry F. Hall Building, at the following times:

  • 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. - new student orientation
  • 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. - pizza break
  • 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. - town hall
 

Given the high demand for fine arts courses, we recommend you begin enrolling for courses as soon as possible. The registration cycle continues until September so changes to your course registration can be made up until the end of the course change period in early September.
