INDIGENOUS-LED SPECIAL PROJECTS GRANT
Five grants per year are available on a first-come, first-awarded basis.
Supporting Indigenous students
The Indigenous-led Special Projects Grant aims to support the Indigenous Directions Action Plan by improving the cultural climate within the Faculty of Fine Arts for Indigenous people by facilitating Indigenous student-led activities through new funding opportunities*.
The program will offer 5 special projects grants each fiscal year valued at $1000 each. There is no deadline, and funds are dispersed on a first-come, first-awarded basis, as funds last (Concordia’s fiscal year begins May 1).
We will fund Indigenous student-led projects that might take on a number of forms, such as:
- Individual student or student group special projects
- Curated exhibitions organized by or for students
- Screenings
- A variety of performance formats
- Conferences and lectures
- Guest artist or expert fees
- Travel for curricular or extra-curricular invitations to present student projects
- Community-based events
Projects can be student-directed, or can be initiated by Indigenous faculty or staff members in collaboration with Indigenous students in the case of larger group activities.
We will fund a variety of expense types through reimbursement, or awarding grants to individuals who wish to carry out a specific program of work to spend at their own discretion. All funds are processed through Concordia University and follow its procedural requirements. Original receipts might be requested in the final stages of distributing funds.

These grants are reserved for projects led by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis undergraduate students studying in the Faculty of Fine Arts. Proof of identity might be requested.
*Combined actions 3.4 and 4.2 carried out within an arts-related community context.
How to apply
- Prepare a one-page project description with information about the key concepts and all participants involved;
- Describe the motivation for your specific project and provide any background information that is most pertinent to the work;
- The project description should be between 450-500 words;

- Include a one-page budget with proposed expenses.
- Include your name, mailing address, email address, affiliation to Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts (student, faculty, staff), and telephone number at the top or bottom of your project description.
Applicants must be enrolled in at least one Fine Arts course at the time of applying, and over the duration in which the work related to the project is carried out; Indigenous staff or faculty coordinating projects in collaboration with Indigenous students must be employed by Concordia University in the Faculty of Fine Arts over this same duration.
