Avery Zhao-Djokic is a visual artist in Studio Arts. Her practice addresses topics of futurist identities and living, cohesion within interdisciplinary performances and includes the documentary painting of contemporary work situations.
From 2016 to 2018 Avery will be working within the Design and Exhibition artist teams of the International Solar Decathlon Expo – Team Montreal, a joint collaboration between McGill University and Concordia. In sculpture, Avery explores human-machine relationships, urban societies and futurist themes. She often communicates these ideas using technical materials sourced from different countries and pieced together. In painting she explores documentary or historical painting based on Montreal’s industrial fashion districts.
In 2013 Avery founded the on-going interdisciplinary project Art Crush. She is inspired by the patterns, constraints, notation and arrangement systems of the music and dance disciplines and explores them in her own practice.
Avery was recently accepted into a month-long residency at the Banff Centre, the BAiR Spring Intensive in Visual + Digital Arts 2017.
