The Romany Eveleigh Residency
We are thrilled to announce the Romany Eveleigh Residency! This two-week residency at Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island aims to support two visual artists in the exploration and creation of new work.
Romany Eveleigh (1934 – 2020) was a British-Canadian artist, known for deft and quiet paintings and drawings made with decisive gestures and muted palette in a post-minimalist style. Prior to her death Eveleigh bequeathed a portion of the proceeds from future sales of her work to support the arts. Concordia’s Art Volt platform is one of the first recipients of the Romany Eveleigh Gift, which has made this residency opportunity possible.
Artscape Gibraltar Point is a secluded community cultural hub nestled against the magnificent natural backdrop of Toronto Island. Amongst other things, they host artist residencies and provide studio rentals to artists.
If you have any questions about the application process or need specific accommodations to help you succeed in applying, please get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org.
Up to two residents will be selected and invited to attend a two-week residency at Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island, from Monday, July 17th to Monday, July 31st 2023.
Selected residents will receive an honorarium of $1000, as well as $200 in travel assistance. During the residency, both residents will share a studio space and will each be allocated a private bedroom. They will also have access to a shared kitchen and lounge area, free WiFi, bike rentals, beautiful outdoor spaces and easy access to the lake from the Gibraltar Point Beach.
Please note that selected residents will be responsible for booking their own travel arrangements to and from Toronto. To get to Artscape Gibraltar Point, residents will need to take a 10min ferry ride onto the island. Please note that there are no grocery stores on the island, so residents will need to bring whatever food they need from the mainland. There is a Farm Boy grocery store 7 min walk away from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal (on the mainland).
Applicants must be registered for graduation or have graduated from Concordia University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, within the last three years.
Alumni interested in applying, are invited to join an information session on Wednesday, March 15th 2023 at 12PM EST. Applicants will be able to ask questions, as well as discuss their project proposal with Art Volt. To join the information session please request a zoom link with email@example.com.
Projects will be selected based on artistic impact, feasibility, and the scope and clarity of the project proposal. The committee will also strive for balanced representations of diverse communities and practices. The selection committee will jury the submissions and aim to notify applicants 11 weeks prior to the residency start date.
