ARTH 655 Thesis Seminar

  • Wednesdays, 6:00-9:00 pm
  • Course delivery TBA
  • Dr. Nicola Pezolet

The thesis seminar is designed to introduce the intellectual and professional aspects of graduate school and academia, and to provide a supportive framework in which students can discuss their experiences. Students receive guidance about the sequence and stages of graduate study including writing the thesis proposal, conducting research and interviews, and undertaking the literature review. The seminar also provides information on other aspects of academic life, such as developing a positive relationship with your supervisor, giving conference papers, getting published, and applying for grants.

Seminar sessions run for 13 weeks, spread out over the fall and winter terms of year 1 and the fall term of year 2. Attendance at additional events such as thesis presentations and the AHGSA conference is expected.

Formal registration for this seminar is deferred until students give their thesis presentations. At that time, the department assigns a pass/fail grade, which triggers automatic registration and the completion of ARTH 655 on the student's transcript.
