Position description

Limited-term appointment (LTA) positions at Concordia University are full-time faculty positions of between 9.5- and 12-month duration. (The annual salary is pro-rated in the case of shorter contracts.) The incumbent is responsible for teaching six (in the case of a 9.5-month contract) or seven three-credit courses per year, and for some administrative and other service roles within the academic unit. Up to two subsequent 12-month appointments may be possible, subject to satisfactory job performance, academic unit need, and budgetary approval. The Department of Art History in the Faculty of Fine Arts invites applications for one LTA position in the Histories of Photography at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following undergraduate courses in the 2022–2023 academic year: ARTH 379 – Postcolonial Theory in Art History; ARTH 384 – Theories of Representation; two sections of ARTH 267 – Aspects of the History of Photography; and two sections of ARTH 200 – Perspectives of Art History (winter term only).

Qualifications and assets

Applicants must have a completed PhD in Art History or closely related discipline(s). We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate teaching excellence at the university level. We are seeking an art historian whose scholarly practice engages directly with histories of photography, in order to fulfill the teaching duties detailed above. While courses to be taught can be adapted and provided with special topics according to the applicant’s expertise and areas of specialization, preference will be given to candidates with scholarship pertaining to historical periods. Additionally, given the teaching assignment for the position, demonstrated knowledge of and experience teaching non-western and/or post-colonial histories of photography is also required. Although classes are taught in English, the ability to read and grade student work in French will be considered an asset.
