Concordia University’s Department of Studio Arts in the Faculty of Fine Arts invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Intersectional, Feminist, and/or Decolonial 2D and 4D Image-Making Practices, to begin August 1, 2020.
We are seeking candidates with a strong 2D and 4D artistic practice whose research topics are attuned to intersectional feminism, cultural representation, race, gender and/or identity. The incumbent should have the ability to address teaching needs related to some or all of the following: the still and moving image, cross reality (XR), the immersive art experience, performative image-making, and digital media. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of and competency in new technologies in order to further define and develop the digital component of our curriculum. We welcome candidates with distinctive voices and practices whose research-creation complements and expands the areas of expertise of our existing faculty members.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses that pertain to 2D and 4D image-making practices at the graduate and undergraduate levels, supervise graduate students, serve on thesis committees, participate in curriculum development, and perform administrative duties. Over time, the selected candidate will actively embrace program stewardship to further advance inclusion in 2D and 4D practices in the Department of Studio Arts, as well as engage in committee work at the department, Faculty, and University levels.
Applicants should possess an MFA degree or equivalent, a minimum of two years of teaching experience at the university level, and display a strong practice in artistic research, as well as a proven record of administrative and committee service. While seeking candidates with a clear interest in intersectional, feminist, and/or decolonizing practices, the Department of Studio Arts will prioritize candidates with solid technical proficiency in digital platforms and tools. The incumbent should demonstrate an understanding of discipline and multi-disciplined approaches to 2D and 4D media, in order to further define and develop core courses that embrace newer forms of image and time-based production. Evidence of prior activities illustrating leadership, service, and commitment to diversity and inclusivity is highly sought. Although classes are taught in English, fluency in spoken and written French is considered an asset, along with other languages.

The internationally renowned MFA program has been active for over three decades and is one of the few to incorporate a third year for graduate students to prepare advanced projects and transition into the next phase of their careers. Attracting one of the most talented cohorts in the nation, undergraduate programs are offered in Fibres and Material Practices, Painting and Drawing, Photography, Print Media, Sculpture, Ceramics, Studio Art, and Intermedia (Video, Performance and Electronic Arts).
