Being a graduate student means long hours of writing and researching at a desk, at any given time of the day. Working from home is exciting because it offers the opportunity to be comfortable, flexible, and efficient; not to mention – you are never too far away from your fridge or coffee supply. There are plenty of excellent articles and posts out there with advice and tips on how to design your home office effectively. In Entrepreneur’s ‘How to Design the Ideal Home Office’, they say “Your office should be a connection to yourself and should afford focus rather than distraction, and be a place you want to be and want to spend time in. This will positively influence you in the space and enhance the work you do there.” So, how does designing an effective home office differ from designing work or campus offices, and what considerations do you need to keep in mind before you get started?

Tip #1: Proper ergonomics
Tip #2: Good lighting
Tip #3: Make the space your own
Tip #4: Be one with nature (by looking out the window, or having a nice plant)
Tip #5: Lose the clutter
Tip #6: Don’t mix work with personal life
Tip #7: Incorporate personal touch and inspiration
