OCE seeks student for work on Indigenous community engagement project

Are you passionate about creating more inclusive spaces for Indigenous people? Do you have experience with community organizing? Advocating for change? Helping your community? 

Concordia’s Office of Community Engagement is looking for a project assistant who will lead the creation of a guide that identifies and explains key considerations for Indigenous community engagement. The guide is intended to relate some of the ways to engage respectfully, meaningfully, equitably and with reciprocity with Indigenous individuals and groups. 

Through this project, the student will research best practices, analyze information, produce written content, and use their experience and judgement to make decisions about format, content and communication strategies to engage readers. 

Candidate Profile 

The candidate should be a Concordia student and have considerable understanding and knowledge of diverse Indigenous histories, worldviews, knowledge systems and economies. The person should be committed to building respectful and constructive relationships with Indigenous communities, and committed to community-engaged work. 

We are specifically seeking a candidate with the following qualities : 

  • Prior experience working with or within Indigenous communities, organizations or community-based groups

  • Good writing skills in English

  • Capacity to synthesize information 

  • Self-motivated, proactive and responsible 

  • Good organizational and time-management skills 

  • Communication and relationship building skills

Knowledge of Indigenous languages and/or French is an asset.

Duration 

Part-time position (14 hours per week)

January 25, 2021 - April 30, 2021

Pay Rate 

$18 per hour
