Dear Concordians,

On June 14, the Quebec Government downgraded the COVID risk level for Montreal to “yellow.” This improvement in the overall public health situation means we can scale back some of the more stringent health and safety protocols we put in place within the university context.

Where are procedure masks still required?

Procedure masks continue to be required when entering university buildings and using shared indoor spaces, including hallways, elevators, lobbies, reception areas, kitchens and washrooms.

Those who need a procedure mask can continue to pick up a free one from a campus access point.

Where can procedure masks now be removed?

As of June 14, procedure masks are no longer required in the following locations as long as two metres of physical distance from others is respected or an appropriate physical barrier has been installed (e.g. plexiglass barrier/partition):

  • Workstations;
  • Research labs; and
  • Teaching labs and other non-classroom spaces, including studios and workshops.

Masks may also be removed when eating or drinking, provided there are two meters between people. It is important to put the mask back on as soon as possible. In places where people cannot properly distance, designated break areas remain available.

Students attending in-person activities in classrooms or auditoriums can remove their masks once seated, if they can maintain 1.5 meters of distances from others. This difference in physical distance is based on government rules about types of activities.

Simplified access to campus protocols

As of June 28, Concordia is simplifying access to campus by eliminating the one-time access process. Furthermore, supervisors and managers are no longer required to submit a COVID-19 Return to Campus Request Form.

Going forward, anyone wishing to come to campus must complete the following three steps:

  1. Obtain approval from their supervisor;
  2. Take the Moodle COVID 19 Safety Training;
  3. Commit to the Self-Evaluation pledge on MyConcordia.

Throughout the summer, Concordians must continue to enter buildings via a campus access point and check in at a security desk.

Please note that students seeking access to the Library for study no longer need to make a reservation, but should consult the Library’s webpage for details about access to study spaces and other services.

The public health situation continues to evolve, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we adapt our procedures, including our EHS COVID guidelines. In the meantime, please check our COVID-19 information pages and watch for additional updates. Please contact ehs@concordia.ca if you have specific questions.

Kind regards,

Pietro Gasparrini
Director, Environmental Health and Safety
