Participants in the 39th annual John Molson MBA International Case Competition (MBA ICC) will be arriving in Montreal with an eye on the future of business.

That’s the theme of this year’s event, which takes place January 6 to 10 at Hotel Bonaventure. The largest of its kind in the world, the MBA ICC showcases talent from the best business schools around the world. Thirty-six teams are participating this year across the five days.

The round-robin tournament combines the academic and the corporate with seven cases chosen from the annual Case Writing Competition. Teams of four MBA students will use their skills to assess these unpublished business cases and complete a presentation on their plan of action and solution to the given problem in front of the 300-plus judges.

Winners take home the Concordia Cup’s $10,000 grand prize.

More than a case competition

A group of nine students from the JMSB MBA program make up the organizing committee this year: Lauren Costain, Zane Ruiz, Ganesh Swami, Karine Prevost, Debanjan Biswas, Stephane Larin, Pankajakshan Ramaswamy, Karine Paradis and Amrita Saluja.

“The MBA ICC has been recognized as one of the most prestigious case competitions, and this is a matter of pride for JMSB and Concordia,” says Saluja, who is in charge of marketing for the event.

“And it is not just about the case competition — this is a great opportunity for people to meet and network with international students and business executives.”

Anne Beaudry, director of the MBA program, is always impressed by the quality of the participants, the dedication of the volunteers and the support provided by the business community as judges and sponsors.

“Year after year, this event wows everyone,” Beaudry says. “Every year I wonder, ‘How can the next team follow and make the next competition an even better one?’ And every year, the organizing team delivers beyond expectations. I expect no less in January.”

The MBA ICC is open to all — an opportunity for students, executives, employers and sponsors to interact.
