1. Bumping block party

Block Party | Esplanade de la Place des Arts | May 3 and 4 starting at 1 p.m.

Don’t miss the famous Place des Arts block party. It’s a festive occasion complete with performances from some of Montreal’s best hip-hop musicians and urban dancers. And if you’re looking to express your own creativity, register for one of the many hip-hop creation workshops that will be held over the weekend.

2. Conversations and communal cooking

Cuisine ta Ville 2019 | Place des Festivals | May 9 and 10 starting at 5 p.m., May 11 and 12 starting at 11 a.m.

Celebrate our multicultural city by sitting down for supper with Montrealers from diverse backgrounds. Cuisine ta Ville invites refugees and immigrants of all generations to share their stories with the city at large. What better way to launch a discussion about migration and inclusion than over some delicious, worldly dishes?

3. A human touch

Handshack | Montreal Digital Spring | Oboro | May 11 starting at 1 p.m.

Looking for a human touch in this digital age? Check out Handshack, an interactive installation by multidisciplinary artist Marites Carino. The intimate piece captures real-time encounters between strangers who get to know each other solely through touch, starting with a simple handshake. The installation is meant to prompt questions concerning society’s use of electronics and whether it reduces authentic human contact.

5. Take a trip back to the 70s

Roll the Bones 2 | Club Soda | May 25 starting at 10 a.m.

Roll the Bones is an old-school motorcycle and art show inspired by the eccentricity of the Kustom Kulture of the 1950s, 60s and 70s. For one day only, you can peruse a unique art gallery, listen to live music and check out many a custom chopper right in the heart of Montreal.
