Concordia students can take pride knowing they’re attending one of the world’s top universities for global employability.

For the second year in a row, Concordia finished in the 301-500 category in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) Graduate Employability Rankings.

The feat is even more impressive when you consider that this year’s rankings evaluated 660 institutions, up from 598 last year. Only the best 500 universities are included in the final tally.

First compiled in 2017, the QS Graduate Employability Rankings recognize universities that produce high-achieving graduates every year. The research considers more than 140,000 employers’ connections with graduates and evaluates nearly 200,000 work placement partnerships.

The rankings evaluate universities according to five indicators: employer reputation, alumni outcomes, employer-student connections, partnerships with employers and graduate employment rate.

Concordia scored strongest in alumni outcomes, placing 10th out of 21 Canadian universities and 225th worldwide. The criterion identifies the alma maters of individuals featured in more than 150 high-achiever lists published by global and regional editors.

“Above all these results speak to the talent, quality and ambition of our students themselves,” says Graham Carr, provost and vice-president, Academic.

“The university is constantly working to provide dynamic courses and programs that will give our graduates a solid foundation for the future. And increasingly, we’re also trying to provide more students with experiential learning opportunities for work-study and research.”

Strong reputation among employers

In the employer reputation category, Concordia ranked 237th among universities around the world. The indicator uses more than 40,000 responses that ask employers to identify institutions from which they source the most competent, innovative and effective graduates.

The university placed in the 201+ category in each of the remaining three indicators — employer-student connections, partnerships with employers and graduate employment rate.

Concordia’s success builds on its earlier results in the 2019 QS World University Rankings, released June 6. The university finished among the top 46 per cent, in 464th spot, out of 1,011 ranked universities, and has moved up 17 places since 2014.
