Today the Government of Quebec announced an investment in its public school system. This includes building a new primary school on Concordia’s downtown campus.

Administered by the Commission scolaire de Montréal, the school will serve families and children in the Ville-Marie borough.

“We believe this is the right decision for the community and responds to an urgent need. It also reflects our commitment to being an engaged member of the community,” says Concordia’s president Alan Shepard.

The school will be constructed on the northwest section of the Grey Nuns site along Saint-Mathieu Street.

Shepard said the land can only be used for a public primary school.

“Given the close proximity of our Department of Education and Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance, we look forward to potential partnerships with the new school,” he says.

The Government of Quebec will be providing more details shortly.
