After nine months of construction, Concordia’s new University Conference Centre is opening its doors on the ninth floor of the John Molson Building (MB).

The new facility comes with great views of the city and a contemporary design.

Marie-Josée Allard, director of Hospitality Concordia, is thrilled that the highly anticipated project is complete. “We worked hand-in-hand with Facilities Management to help plan and design a space that would be able to meet all the needs expressed by the community,” she says.

This includes a banquet room with the capacity to hold 170 people for a sit-down meal. This, Allard says, was sorely needed by the university. “People no longer need to book spaces outside the university. We now have a beautiful, state-of-the-art conference facility that has a lot of versatility for different events.”

The new multi-functional space will be open to the entire university community. It features seven meeting rooms that can be converted into larger spaces. It also features integrated audio-visual equipment, a lobby, a lounge and a catering kitchen.

Isabelle Roy, project manager with Facilities Management, is grateful for all the collaborative work that took place to bring the project to life.

“Between the planning phase and the delivery of the project we relied heavily on a dedicated group of external partners including architects, engineers, contractor, consultants and over 100 internal staff.”

Her hope for the new space is that it will meet the needs of the community as we evolve into the 21st century.

Three grand opening events will be held on October 2, 3 and 4, from 10 to 11 a.m., to showcase the new space.

A new Student Success Centre

A consolidated Student Success Centre will take over the space vacated by the previous conference facilities on the seventh floor of the Henry F. Hall Building (H).

Concordia’s Student Success Centre supports students in reaching their full potential – personally, academically and professionally – through the help of trained staff and student employees. The centre is now in its third year of operation.

The new, larger and more versatile Student Success Centre will enable greater support for students and provide a welcoming space for workshops and events.

The centre is expected to open in late 2018.
