Starting September 20, Concordia will join CEGEPs and universities across Montreal to take part in Vélo Québec’s first ever Mon Campus à Vélo event.

This bicycle-oriented week also coincides with Les Semaines de la mobilité, which celebrates sustainable urban transportation.

Activities organized by Concordia’s Environmental Health and Safety sustainability team will centre on the benefits of cycling, while encouraging students, faculty and staff to consider using a bike for their daily commute.

SEPT 20: The no-solo-driving challenge

In a bid to raise awareness around sustainable transportation, Concordia has teamed up with the Quebec Transit Management Centers Association for a friendly competition called Défi sans auto solo.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to sign up on the competition website to pledge that they will commute in a sustainable fashion on September 20. On the day of the event, they must go back onto the forum and validate their pledge.

Participants are eligible to win individual prizes, including an all-inclusive trip for two to Punta Cana or a $500 travel credit from VIA Rail Canada. There are also institutional prizes up for grabs.

Join the Concordia team and confirm your sustainable commute on September 20.

SEPT 21: Get inspired to ride

On Thursday, September 21, stretch your legs and get some fresh air by biking to the Université de Montréal with the EHS sustainability team to attend a lecture featuring Canadian triathlete Pierre Lavoie.

The team will be departing at 11 a.m.  from the Guy-De Maisonneuve (GM) Building and returning at 2:15 p.m. Email sustainability@concordia.ca to reserve your spot.

SEPT 22: PARK(ing) Day

On September 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the sustainability team will be working with faculty, students and community partners to transform seven parking spots on Mackay Street into artistic installations and kiosks celebrating public spaces and sustainable transportation alternatives.

Launched in 2005, PARK(ing) Day was created to bring citizens, activists and artists together to discuss how public spaces are created and allocated. The event calls attention to the need to improve life in our cities through the temporary transformation of public landscapes.

Check out the installations on the Sir George Williams Campus and strike up a conversation about sustainable transportation.
