On November 11, 2015, the Government of Quebec tabled legislation outlining modifications that will affect pension plans in the university sector.

We are now reviewing the potential impact of this proposed legislation on our retirees, faculty and staff.

While we do so, I'd like to say that Concordia remains committed to maintaining its defined benefit pension plan while ensuring the plan’s financial sustainability.

This is why we created a Pension Sustainability Forum last year. The forum's membership includes representatives from all our union and employee groups. The purpose of this forum is to share information and seek feedback and suggestions on possible solutions to addressing pension plan reform at Concordia. In addition, we are also holding ongoing and regular discussions with the employee representatives on the Employee Benefits Committee of the Board of Governors.

We will continue to discuss the draft legislation as well as its impact and eventual implementation with our union and employee groups through these forums.

Stay tuned for more information on Cspace and in the NOW newsletter.
