Creativity on display at Spring Shows
The Faculty of Fine Arts is once again opening its doors to Montrealers with its fourth annual Spring Shows showcase, a series of events highlighting the creative accomplishments of undergraduate and graduate students.
From jazz concerts to student entries at the Montreal International Design Show to creative arts therapies workshops and performance installations, the offerings are varied. Students will uphold Concordia’s reputation as a centre of vibrant creativity and intellectual culture that fosters innovative artistic practice.
"With the Spring Shows campaign, our goal is to continue to enrich our university and the community with the innovative and interdisciplinary art created here," says Dean Catherine Wild. "The lineup of events prepared by emerging artists, curators, choreographers, filmmakers and performers reaffirms that Concordia is the place to be for contemporary art and performance. Great things are happening here.”
More than 40 shows in 20 venues will be staged by students in all nine of Concordia's fine arts departments: art education; art history; contemporary dance; creative arts therapies; design and computation arts; music; studio arts; theatre; and the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. The showcase launches in early March with a festival of short theatrical works and wraps up in late June with an interdisciplinary exhibition by graduating students.
Montrealers who live near the Loyola and Sir George Williams campuses will soon receive a copy of the bilingual Spring Shows 2013 brochure. Featuring a visual calendar of events along with detailed programming information, the publication will also be available on campus and distributed to cafes, bars and cultural hotspots throughout the city.
