Long heralded as a hub of vibrant creativity and intellectual culture that fosters cutting-edge artistic practice, Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts is once again opening its doors to Montrealers with the third annual Spring Shows showcase – a series of events highlighting the creative accomplishments of undergraduate and graduate students.

In 2012, all nine of Concordia’s fine arts departments – Art Education, Art History, Contemporary Dance, Creative Arts Therapies, Design and Computation Arts, Music, Studio Arts, Theatre and the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema – are represented at over 40 shows in 20 different locations. The showcase kicks off with the MFA in Studio Arts exhibition and the annual creative arts therapies week in March, among other events, and ends with the annual interdisciplinary graduating student exhibition in June.

Those who live near the Loyola and Sir George Williams campuses have already received a copy of the Spring Shows 2012 brochure. This bilingual publication, which features a visual calendar of events along with detailed programming information, is also available on campus and will be distributed to cafes, bars and cultural hotspots throughout the city. Complete show listings are available online.

“With the Spring Shows, our goal is to continue to enrich our university and the community with the innovative and interdisciplinary art created here,” says Fine Arts Dean Catherine Wild. “The lineup of events prepared by emerging artists, curators, choreographers, filmmakers and performers reaffirms that Concordia is the place to be for contemporary art and performance. Great things are happening here.”
