Calling all athletes and fundraisers

Appeal to the Concordia community from Linton Garner.

Hello Concordians,

CIBC’s annual Run for the Cure takes place October 2. The walk/run raises money for the Canadian and Quebec Breast Cancer Foundations, and Concordia is entering a team in the Post-Secondary Team Challenge. We encourage everyone to sign up with Concordia’s team or to start one of their own affiliated with Concordia.

This year we are trying to best our Quebec competition (McGill, Laval, Bishop and Sherbrooke) and be the top fundraising university the province. The Concordia team is also looking for students to participate because CIBC will donate two $10,000 scholarships to the students who raise the most money in support of the cause.

At press time, we have about 35 team members and we’ve raised $4,127, putting us in second place among all universities in the country. However, we need more of you to participate. Visit the website to join or support Concordia’s team.

For those of you who are not runners, remember you can walk as well. In fact, some of the registered members are walking each Wednesday at noon with the David O’Brien Centre for Sustainable Enterprise during their Summer Strolls on the Mountain. They meet in the lobby of the John Molson School of Business (1450 Guy St.) to kick off the walk.

For runners, Kathleen Perry of the Faculty of Fine Arts has initiated a lunch-hour run for beginners and experienced runners. They meet at Place Norman-Bethune on De Maisonneuve Boulevard every Tuesday and Thursday at noon.

Finally, join us on Thursday, September 22 from 6 p.m. onwards at Bar Blizzarts (3956A St-Laurent Blvd.) for a Concordia DJ Showcase where the receipts from the door and a percentage of the bar revenue will go toward our cause. Stay tuned for more details.

If you or your team are having any other events be sure to inform us so we can get the word out.

Thanks again to all of you for supporting us and the Canadian and Quebec Breast Cancer Foundations.

Linton S. Garner,
Concordia Team Co-Captain and Community Relations Coordinator in the Office of the Vice-President, Institutional Relations and Secretary-General
