The third Concordia softball tournament made many people happy. About 60 Concordians and friends played in the friendly competition on the last weekend of August, but it didn’t end there.

On August 30, a delivery of 10 bags of non-perishable items was delivered to the NDG Food Bank, along with a cheque for $950. Fiona Keats, executive director of the food bank, expressed her gratitude and that of her colleagues in a lovely letter sent to event organizer Joanne Beaudoin.

Beaudoin, administrative director at the School of Graduate Studies, first came up with the idea of having a fundraising softball tournament in 2008. The games are held in Kirwan Park in Côte-St-Luc and each year, volunteers hold a barbecue to raise funds, in addition to the team fees that are donated to the food bank.

The food bank, in its 25th year, has been experiencing increased demand since 1986.
