Undergraduate named Quebec student entrepreneur of the year

Business student Adam Haroun to compete for regional title in March

Marketing undergraduate student Adam Haroun has been recognized as student entrepreneur of the year in Quebec by national charitable organization Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE).

Haroun is president and founder of The XFactor Agency, a two-year-old design firm that develops brand identities, websites, social media profiles and marketing materials for businesses.

On February 15, he was named ACE’s Student Entrepreneur Quebec Champion. “It really is an honour and privilege to be recognized for my business accomplishments thus far,” says Haroun.

He will now compete at the regional championship in Toronto on March 18, with a $1,000 prize on the line. The three regional winners will then face off at the 2011 ACE National Exposition in Toronto on May 11, 2011. The Student Entrepreneur National Champion will receive a $10,000 cash prize and go on to represent Canada at the Global Student Entrepreneur competition.

“Having the opportunity to represent my academic institution is something I take great pride in. I can’t wait see where things go from here,” he says.

Haroun has expanded the XFactor Agency more than 600% in the last year. He is also former Marketing Manager for the Concordia Entrepreneurship and Management Association. 

“Balancing a business and academia is really about setting priorities and managing time effectively. Leveraging eConcordia for my elective courses, night classes, summer sessions, and seeking the continued guidance of private tutors have been absolutely essential,” Says Haroun. “I think there is certainly a strong undercurrent of entrepreneurship that runs throughout the Concordia community.”
