The art of Geneviève Cadieux, a professor in the Concordia Department of Photography, will soon be displayed in the Saint-Lazare subway station in Paris.

As part of a cultural exchange between the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Régie autonome des transport parisiens (RATP), her artwork La Voix lactée (The Milky Way) will be unveiled in the subway in October 2011.

“The STM is proud to have a renowned Montreal artist’s creation in Paris, as part of its exchange with the RATP, as a way to strengthen the bonds that unite Montreal and Paris,” said Jocelyn Ann Campbell, President of the STM’s Art and Heritage Committee.

Well known to Montrealers, Geneviève Cadieux’s La Voix lactée is currently perched at the top of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal will be recreated at the Saint-Lazare station.

Placed in an eminently poetic spot, La Voix lactée will allow metro readers to see a timeless piece amid a white subway corridor. The artwork will be composed of a glass mosaic and will occupy the entire surface of the inner corridor that links the mezzanine of line nine to line 14.

Since the 1980’s Cadieux has participated in numerous collective exhibits in Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia. In 1990 she represented Canada at the Vienna Biennial.

She has also participated in many solo exhibits around the world and her works can be found in various private collections and museums – one of which on display at the Paris Centre Pompidou: elles@centrepompidou.

Since 2002, Cadieux has been an associate professor in the Department of Photography in Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts. She is the recipient of the 2007 Pratt & Whiney Canada Award from the Grand Prix du Conseil des Arts de Montréal.
