ECE Prof honoured at international conference

MNS Swamy, a professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, had a plenary given in his honor at the 53rd IEEE International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, in Seattle in early August. This syposium is one of the oldest of its kind sponsored by the IEEE and the plenary session was entitled, Honoring Dr. MNS Swamy and his Profound Contributions on his 75th Birthday.

Over the last 40 years, Swamy has made significant contributions to the area of circuits and systems, DSP, Multi-Dimensional Systems, Image Processing Graph Theory as well as Electronics. In celebrating his 75th birthday the IEEE revisited some of his seminal contributions in the above areas.

Swamy is presently a research professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Director of the Center for Signal Processing and Communications. He served as the Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering from 1970 to 1977, and Dean of Engineering and Computer Science from 1977 to 1993. Since July 2001, he has held the Concordia Chair (Tier I) in Signal Processing.
