Human Rights Watch says Myanmar is committing crimes against humanity in its campaign against Muslim insurgents in the state of Rakhine. The organisation is calling on the UN Security Council to impose sanctions against the majority Buddhist country as well as an arms embargo. The UNSC will debate the question on Thursday.

Kyle Matthews, the executive director of Concordia’s Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS), is closely monitoring the situation in Myanmar as well as the movements of refugees fleeing the country.
