Another post as part of our John Molson Graduate Experience series, a multi-part video series released throughout 2021-- featuring many experience-centered, hands-on learning opportunities relevant to our graduate programs and students throughout different disciplines.

Being both the world’s largest and oldest MBA international case competition, the John Molson International Case Competition (ICC) hosts 36 different MBA teams from around the world for a weeklong competition in the heart of downtown Montreal (Hotel Bonaventure). The John Molson ICC also hosts over 300 judges – business leaders from the greater Montreal area who volunteer their time to judge cases and connect with future MBAs. In addition, the ICC also enlists the help of hundreds of volunteers – students and staff who give their time to help make the event a success.

The ICC organizers and executive assistants receive MBA elective credits for their work on the case competition. Being an organizer or executive assistant gives students a life-changing experience in leadership, event management, marketing, business development and communications, and not to mention a global network of other MBAs and business leaders. The student organizers raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in corporate sponsorships and build strong professional relations with stakeholders. Inviting schools and also putting out a call for live cases in the early days leading up to the competition, the organizers learn how to conduct effective communications and to successfully reach out to contributors and engage MBA programs abroad.

The John Molson ICC competitor team is a team of four MBA students and coach (Professor Tim Field). These competitors also receive elective credits towards their MBA for their participation in representing John Molson competitively at the case competition. It’s also a point of pride for these students, as John Molson students, faculty and staff often attend in the audience, to cheer on the John Molson competitors in presenting their cases to judges in the hopes of advancing in the competition.

In the short video below, Bill Meder, Academic Advisor for the MBA International Case Competition talks about the competition, as well as the advantages and benefits for MBAs in being a part of this global event!
