On November 27 and 29, over 200 marketing undergraduates will be displaying their market research projects in the Molson Building (MB) atrium.

Students in the John Molson School of Business’s Consumer Behaviour (MARK 305) class have been working in teams, researching recent trends in consumer behaviour, and considering how these trends might be applied in a variety of industries.

The findings will be presented on posters that will be displayed to the public and the “best poster” will be selected by a group of marketing professionals, and John Molson faculty and staff members who will act as judges. All other attendees will be able to vote to determine the winner of the “popular choice” award.

Darlene Walsh, an associate professor in the Department of Marketing and the course instructor is behind the initiative.

She explains that the students were asked to complete primary data to gain deeper insights into consumer behavior, and to then provide strategic recommendations, which will be displayed on the posters in whatever way the students decide.

“The students are really excited to show off their work,” says Walsh. “This is the third time, we’ve done this and the enthusiasm for these sessions just keeps growing.”

“What I’m really happy about is how many corporate partners we’ve been able to attract to judge the projects.”

“This is where the real value is,” agrees Stephen Laing, a lecturer who teaches the other section of the mandatory course. “Students get real industry feedback, and also have the opportunity to meet individuals working in the fields that interest them.”

Walsh and Laing, with the support of the Career Management Services department, have arranged for representatives from a host of companies from a range of industries to participate as judges. Many of those volunteering their time are Concordia alumni. The list of companies sending representatives includes:

  • Les collations JUST BITE
  • Sobeys
  • Téo Taxi
  • Play the Future
  • National Dispatch Services
  • Inward Bound
  • Cogeco Cable
  • Kinova

The poster sessions will take place in the Molson Building (MB) atrium:

  • Tuesday November 27 from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday November 27 from 6 to 8:15 p.m.
  • Thursday November 29 from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday November 29 from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
