Stephen Snow gives keynote address at 1st NADTA Canadian Regional Conference

The Canadian Regional Conference of the North American Drama Therapy Association (NADTA) was recently held at the University of Winnipeg in Manitoba on June 24-25. The theme of the inaugural conference was Weaving Together the Canadian Drama Therapy Community. The conference featured a combination of experiential workshops facilitated by leaders in the field, two panel discussions on topics at the heart of Canadian Drama Therapists, a powerful Drama Therapy performance, and a keynote luncheon on the topic of “The Emergence of Canadian Drama Therapy” with Concordia Drama Therapy professor Stephen Snow. Stephen has been teaching Drama Therapy students from Canada and around the world at Concordia University for 20 years.

Other Concordia highlights from the conference include:

-Concordia Drama Therapy professor Bonnie Harnden’s workshop – Awe, The Body, and Drama Therapy

-Concordia alumnus, Arts in Health Research Collective member and NADTA president Jason Butler’s workshop – Bring Your Body to the Playspace

-Concordia Drama Therapy student Leah Borchert’s performance research – The Opposite of Play

Special thanks to Conference committee member and Concordia Drama Therapy alumna Stephanie Russell who provided a friendly face and helpful info at the Concordia table during the conference.

Congratulations to NADTA Canadian Region Representative and Concordia Drama Therapy alumna Csilla Przibislawsky and her planning committee for organizing this inaugural conference. The hope is that this will become an annual event.
