MA alumna Marieke Gruwel's recent contributions to the Winnipeg Architecture Foundation
As Architectural Historian and Curator at the Winnipeg Architecture Foundation (WAF), Marieke Gruwel (MA, 2019) conducted research to create the Manitoba Women in Design Database. This ongoing project aims to document women architects, landscape architects, planners, and interior designers who studied and/or practiced in the province.
Additionally, Marieke recently worked with Dr. Lisa Landrum (University of Manitoba) on the project Unstacking the Deck: A Game of Change which celebrates early women designers who studied and/or worked in Manitoba.
Marieke also published a part of her MA thesis The Elizabeths: Gender, Modernism, and Winnipeg’s Built Environment, 1945-1975 in the anthology The Routledge Companion to Women in Architecture (June 2021).
