On November 17, Concordia Professor Emerita Sandra Paikowsky was invested as a member to the Order of Canada, alongside notable Canadians such as authors Joseph Boyden and Rohinton Mistry and historian Margaret MacMillan.

Paikowsky, who received her BA from Sir George Williams University in 1967, was named to the Order of Canada for her contributions to the development of Canadian art history as a discipline.

“It is an absolute thrill to have received the Order of Canada," says Paikowsky, who retired in 2010 after 41 years as a faculty member in the Department of Art History.

“At the same time, it's an honour that I want to share with everyone I collaborated with at the Journal of Canadian Art History, the Department of Art History and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Concordia, and the former Concordia Art Gallery, as well as colleagues and friends everywhere,” she adds.

“I have had a wonderful career and I am still involved with major projects that continue, as always, to give me great joy,” says Sandra Paikowsky, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, bestowed the Order of Canada on 1 Companion, 12 Officers and 29 Members. Paikowsky co-founded the Journal of Canadian Art History/Annales d'histoire de l'art canadien in 1974. She was the managing editor until 2010 and the publisher until 2012. She remains a member of the journal's editorial board. She is the First Distinguished Fellow of the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art and from 1981 to 1992, she was the director/curator of the Concordia Art Gallery, now the Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery.
