Three Concordians are finalists for the 2016 Prix Pierre-Ayot and Prix Louis-Comtois
The city of Montreal and the Contemporary Art Galleries Association unveiled their finalists for the 2016 Prix Pierre-Ayot and Prix Louis-Comtois and half of the finalists have a connection with the Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts.
The Prix Pierre-Ayot supports and promotes artists who are in the early stages of their career.
Karen Kraven is a finalist for the Prix Pierre-Ayot. She holds an MFA (2012) from Concordia and has had recent solo exhibitions at Montreal’s Parisian Laundry as well as Toronto’s 8eleven and Mercer Union galleries.
Nicolas Grenier is also finalist for the Prix Pierre-Ayot. Grenier is an alumnus (BFA 2004) and part-time professor who has recently had solo exhibitions at Recyclart in Brussels and Luis De Jesus in Los Angeles.
The Prix Louis-Comtois supports and promotes artists who have distinguished themselves in Montreal’s contemporary arts scene throughout the past 15 years.
Nelson Hendricks, Concordia alumnus (BFA 1994) and part-time professor, is a finalist. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Paul Petro Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto and at Dazibao in Montreal. Hendricks has won multiple awards and he had a mid-career retrospective at the Leonard and Bina Ellen in 2010.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Musée d’art contemporain December 7th at 6 p.m. The event is open to all.
