The Department of Philosophy is pleased to announce that Michèle Martin, graduating BA student with Honours in Philosophy, is the 2020-21 recipient of the W.R. Fraser Philosophy Medal. The Medal is awarded to the most outstanding graduating student in the department.

Outgoing Department Chair Dr. Matt Barker writes:

Michèle Martin is one of the most talented, devoted, and, frankly, awe-inspiring students our department has ever had the pleasure of knowing. Michèle’s list of accomplishments is stunning: graduating with an Honours degree in Philosophy with Great Distinction, a cumulative GPA of 4.06, 78 philosophy credits completed (with many at advanced levels), winner of an Ada Israel Memorial Scholarship, winner of a Sheila Mason Bursary, twice a winner of the Vladamir Zeman Award, twice a winner of a Concordia Undergraduate Student Research Award, winner of a Top Scholar Award, presentations at large philosophy conferences including Philopolis, twice on the Dean’s list, and recently awarded a prestigious Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) for upcoming work in a Master’s of Arts program. Somehow Michèle also found plenty of time to contribute in many other ways to department life, including assisting and leading Inclusivity Project initiatives, advocating for disabled students, and representing at Concordia Open Houses. Michèle has a tack-sharp mind, astonishing perseverance, and is widely known and admired by students and faculty alike for their inclusive nature and collaborative spirit. We wish Michèle the very best in all future endeavours.

Congratulations, Michèle, on this great achievement. We wish you continued success in your MA in Philosophy at l'Université du Québec à Montréal!
