The Philosophy Department is pleased to announce that Shawn Huberdeau, MA student in Philosophy, is the winner of the 2020 Vladimir Zeman Award for his essay titled "Affective Apperception: Kant and Sartre on the Constitution of Self-Consciousness."

Prof. Nabeel Hamid writes: “The paper is a fine example of how to bring historical and contemporary authors in meaningful dialogue on questions of perennial interest.”

The Vladimir Zeman Award is a merit based student award established in honour of Professor Emeritus Vladimir Zeman’s longstanding and highly regarded contributions to teaching students in the Department of Philosophy, especially in the areas of Kantian and neo-Kantian philosophy, but also in philosophy of science, environmental philosophy and American Pragmatism.
