Starting today, MIGS is hosting its annual “Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights'' from April 25-29 2022 in collaboration with eQualitie, the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre, Global Action Against Mass Atrocity Crimes (GAAMAC) and the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media. Speakers include, amongst others, Rastislav Šutek (Executive Director, Platform for Peace and Humanity), Judge Silvia Fernandez De Gurmendi (GAAMAC Chair), Lord Clement-Jones (Member of Parliament (UK) Parliamentarians for Global Action), Francesca Bosco (Chief Strategy Officer, CyberPeace Institute), Isabel Bragueros (Executive Director of the Tor Project) Danny Rayman (Technology and Human Rights Researcher at Business and Human Rights Resource Center) and Francesca Fanucci (Senior Legal Advisor, European Center for Not-For-Profit Law). MIGS released its “White Paper Combatting Online Antisemitism” as part of its project funded by Heritage Canada. The report is available in English and French. MIGS also hosted a Twitter Space with Member of Parliament Anthony Housefather, Project Leader Lauren Salim, Kyle Matthews, Emmanuelle Amar and Alyssa Blank. You can listen to it here.
MIGS announced that Eric Meerkamper joined the institute as a Fellow. He will advise MIGS with its global strategy and partnership development and their work related to emerging tech-related issues that intersect with human rights around the world.
Joana Cook announced the publication of her book “The Rule is for None but Allah”. Written with Shiraz Maher (director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation), the book will be published in November 2022.
MIGS’ Executive Director Kyle Matthews was featured in the book “Inspiring Canadians: Forty Brilliant Canadians and Their Visions for the Nation”.
Upcoming Events
MIGS’ Executive Director Kyle Matthews will participate in a Global Affairs Canada roundtable meeting, chaired by the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the state of democracy and Canada’s approaches to advancing democracy around the world.
MIGS will host the panel discussion "Building a Global Digital Authoritarianism Index" at the 11th edition of RightsCon, which will take place the week of June 6 2022.
