Dozens of Soldiers, Civilians Killed in Fresh Boko Haram Violence

  • Boko Haram gunmen killed dozens of soldiers and massacred civilians in a weekend attack on an island on Lake Chad, after 21 people were shot dead in Yobe State
  • Islamist fighters travelling in motorized canoes stormed the island of Karamga on Lake Chad before sunrise on Saturday
  • A security source in Chad said Niger lost 48 soldiers and another 36 were missing

Boko Haram Attacks Two Borno Towns

  • A member of the youth vigilante group, Luqman Indi told our correspondent in Maiduguri that two towns, Marte and Mafa, were attacked by the insurgents between Thursday and Friday
  • Indi said some members of the local vigilante group in Kirenowa, the major town in Marte, reported to them in Maiduguri that the insurgents invaded the town from various locations and succeeded in dislodging Nigerian troops stationed in the area

  • Hundreds of soldiers were yesterday set to be deployed to the Sambisa forest from the Kaduna International Airport for the current military onslaught against Boko Haram

Military Rescues 200 Girls, 93 Women from Sambisa Forest

  • In what may be the likeliest clue on the whereabouts of the Chibok girls, the Nigerian military has rescued 293 women and girls from Sambisa forest
  • At least three major terrorist camps were destroyed in the well-coordinated attacks that included the destruction of the notorious Tokumbere camp
  • Those rescued are being questioned in order to ascertain their identities- it is suspected but not known that some of them were abducted one year ago from Chibok

160 More Girls Rescued from Sambisa

  • The Army has announced the rescue today (Thursday) of another set 160 more hostages, mostly girls, from the Boko Haram stronghold
  • A military source indicated the women were used as human shields and in some cases fired back at soldiers until they were subdued

Boko Haram: EU to Support Borno Children with N325m

  • The European Union (EU) has approved a grant of N325 million for community-based psychosocial support and protection of children and adolescents in Borno State

21 IDPs Killed Searching for Food in Yobe

  • Witnesses and local officials said the victims went to get foodstuff in a convoy of vehicles but were intercepted and killed in Bultaram village on their way back to Damaturu
  • The attackers were all in military uniform, but it is not known whether they were military personnel or Boko Haram members using the uniforms as disguise
