28 Feared Killed in Kano, Yobe Blast

  • THE fragile peace in Kano was yesterday punctured as an explosion rocked the busiest motor parks in the city, killing about 12 and injuring others, including the two bombers. The blast occurred at Kano Line, located at Naibawa Area, along Zaria Road
  • In Yobe Sate, a suspected female terrorist with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) hidden yet in her flowing veil detonated the substance yesterday, killing 16 people
  • The suicide bombers were said to be teenagers between the ages of 17 and 18 years

27 Killed in Kano, Potiskum Explosions

  • Fifteen people died and 53 others were injured in the Potiskum, Yobe State attack while 12 were said to have lost their lives in the incident at the Kano Line Motor Park on Zaria Road, Kano
  • Yobe State has witnessed several suicide bomb attacks in recent times in places like motor parks, markets and restaurant
  • President Goodluck Jonathan condemned the attacks, regretting that they came at a time his administration and multinational forces were doing everything possible to recover areas formerly controlled by Boko Haram
  • Statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati: [President Goodluck Jonathan] “He affirms that his administration will continue to take all necessary actions to guarantee the success of ongoing military operations against the terrorist group and drastically reduce its ability to take and hold territory or recruit, groom and brainwash young persons to undertake suicide bombings on soft targets.”

Boko Haram Kills Six Nigerian Soldiers, torch Houses in Karamga Border Attacks

  • Gunmen in a convoy of Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles Friday clashed with Nigerien soldiers at Karamga village on shores of Lake Chad, killing six soldiers and torching of several houses and shops
  • The attack on the village, according to a military source in Maiduguri Saturday, was in a “desperation of fleeing insurgents” to inflict more havoc to lives and property at Karamga that is currently hosting over 3, 650 fleeing residents of Gambouru, Damasak and Abadam in Nigeria and other attacked border towns of Bosso and Diffa in Niger

Boko Haram Kills over 50 Persons in Adamawa

  • One of the residents in the affected areas reported that 23 persons were killed in Gaya, 17 killed in Fa’a, and 10 killed in Dang villages in Hong Local area of the State
  • According to the resident, the insurgents attacked any village they came across while fleeing from the Nigerian troops, adding that the troops are gaining upper hand on the insurgents’ sequel to the combined efforts of Republics of Chad, Niger and Cameroon

Troops Urged to capture Boko Haram leader alive

  • TROOPS of the Nigerian military have been urged to capture the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, alive even as fleeing terrorists abandoned large heaps of arms and ammunition
  • The rumour about Shekau’s invincibility is one of the factors that troops are afraid to confront the terrorists

Military clears terrorists from Baga, Others

  • As the military onslaught on the Boko Haram terrorists continues, Baga, and 15 communities in Borno State have been cleared of the insurgents, even as 1500 mine spots have been unearthed by the troops
  • Similar exercise is being carried out in over 15 locations, namely Gajigana, Ngaze, Ngenzai, Marte Junction, Mile 90, Yoyo, Kekeno, Kukawa, Cross Kauwa, Kangarwa, Amirari, Kichimatari, Borokari Barati, Kauwa and other localities where troops have flushed out the terrorists in the operations preceding the entry to Baga

Real Battle to Dislodge Boko Haram Begins in March

  • Although Nigeria’s armed forces in league with neighbouring armies of Niger, Cameroon and Chad have since stepped up the war against the insurgents, bombarding camps inside Nigeria, the real ground-and-air offensive is not scheduled to begin until end of March, when the regional force will become operational
  • Military chiefs of Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Benin and Niger will meet in the Chadian capital N’Djamena next week to finalise strategy for the 8,700-strong task-force of regional troops
  • The implementation of the force has been delayed by tensions between Nigeria and Cameroon over the right to pursue militants across the border into each other’s countries

Egypt Advocates Strong Coalition Against Boko Haram

  • Egypt has called for a broad coalition by African nations and their allies against Boko Haram and other Islamic militant groups which he said posed a serious threat to Sub-Sahara Africa
  • The Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ashraf Salama, who said this in Abuja on Monday while reacting to the killing of 29 Coptic Egyptian Christians by IS militants last week, noted that the alliance against Boko Haram by Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger, is yielding results
