Did you know that a fish farm with 200 000 salmon produces as much raw sewage as 40 000 people? This is just one among a myriad of sources of polluting phosophorus that can lead to eutrophication, suffocating wildlife and negatively affecting drinking water. As part of the LSRC Monthly Seminar Series, Dr. Aleksandra Drizo spoke in the MB building last Friday about her life-long struggle to develop technological solutions to remove eutrophication-causing phosphorus from wastewater, thus addressing the global problem of eutrophication. In this facinating account of tehcnological solutions, Dr. Drizo pointed out that the main problem is not now one of technological know-how, but rather of political will and policy change.
