Corrigan, McDonough, and Neumann win $221,000 grant to investigate how to improve students’ ability to evaluate online information

Julie Corrigan (Assistant Professor in Educational Technology), Kim McDonough (Professor in Applied Linguistics), and Heike Neumann (Senior Lecturer, Applied Linguistics) were awarded a three-year Fonds de Recherche de Québec grant for $221,000 to design interventions by Quebec teachers for Quebec students aimed at increasing students’ ability to evaluate the credibility of online information.They will also explore the effectiveness of these interventions across first-language background, gender, and socio-economic status.

The Department of Education professors will work with local education partners including Andrea Barrios Guerrero (incoming MA student, and foreign language teacher and department head at Collège Saint-Paul) and Caroline Dupuis (pedagogical consultant responsible for the RÉseau axé sur le développement des Compétences des élèves par l’Intégration des Technologies [RÉCIT] dossier with the English Montreal School Board).  

Collaborators on the project include Amélie Daoust-Boisvert (Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism) and Anne Wade (Information Specialist with the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance).
