The Dean's Awards for Excellence are a formal recognition of the commitment and achievements of faculty and staff in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Staff and faculty are recognized in four categories: Service to the Faculty by a Staff Member, Teaching, Scholar (junior, mid-career and senior) and Service. The Dean also acknowledges the Strategic Research Cluster University Research Awards, the new Concordia University Research Chairs as well as other Chair designations including Canada Research Chairs.

Honourees are nominated by their students and peers and chosen by a selection committee, which is led by the Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs team. 

The following honourees will be recognized on November 26, 2019.

Service to the Faculty by a Staff Member
Sheri Kuit

The Selection Committee highlighted Kuit's overall outstanding record as Administrator.

Mircea Mandache
Graduate Program Assistant
Department of Journalism

The Selection Committee highlighted Mandache's ability to seamlessly manage the merger of two programs' administrative responsibilities.

The Selection Committee highlighted David's outstanding teaching evaluations and strong set of comments from students in his courses.

Sylvia Kairouz

Scholar (junior)
Mihaela Iordanova
Assistant Professor
Department of Psychology

The Selection Committee highlighted Iordanova's Tier 2 CRC as well as her role in other successful grant applications.

Fenwick McKelvey

Department of Communication Studies

The Selection Committee highlighted McKelvey's productivity as a scholar, his new book, and his role in a large number of public-facing events and media engagements.

Krista Byers-Heinlein

The Selection Committee highlighted Byers-Heinlein's strong work in child development and language acquisition and remarkable record of lectures and other engagement with the public that expand the impact of her research.
