Plastic water bottles and other plastic debris sit tangled up on a beach

The planet, its ecosystems and societies are currently overwhelmed by plastic packaging, plastic products, and consequently, plastic waste. Unfortunately, the reality is that a very small portion of this waste is recycled-- and the remainder either goes to landfill, is used to generate energy, or goes completed unmanaged. In Canada, only 9% of plastic waste is recycled, but around 3 million tonnes of plastic waste is generated every year.

What can be done in the public sphere to tackle environmental issues, such as plastic production and consumption? In this webinar, the public policy options that can be adopted by a government will be explained and analyzed. We will give examples of different approaches to environmental policies and outline Canada's stance on the issue.

This event is part of Campus Sustainability Month at Concordia, a month-long series of events, activities, and giveaways.
