Open educational resources (OERs) have gained considerable momentum across Canada and worldwide because they significantly lower the cost of course materials – enabling access for all. As part of Open Access Week, this session will give an OER overview. We will search for discipline-specific OERs and discuss the challenges and significant benefits of integrating OERs into course content, including social justice within curricula and the publishing ecosystem.
Learning objectives:
Understand the basics of OERs and their place in the open ecosystem
Search OER repositories for discipline-specific OERs
Discuss the challenges and significant benefits of integrating OERs into course content
Ask questions about the social justice implications of OERs
