The majority of the world’s population calls a city their home. In the era of big data, smart cities are touted as the solution to varying expectations and uncertain conditions, magnified by climate change. On the other hand, many cities today struggle with aging infrastructure and a growing funding gap. Can smart cities also promote infrastructure longevity?

Our five panelists, Dr. Rebecca Dziedzic, Dr. Mazdak Nik-Bakht, Dr. Mohamed Ouf, Dr. Orit Halpern and Dr. Zachary Patterson will discuss the implications of smart cities for infrastructure longevity. From different perspectives, three facets of longevity will be explored, durability, recyclability and desirability.
