Play therapy is a therapeutic approach beneficial to a child who is experiencing difficulties at home, school or in his or her community. As stated by Virginia Axline, a psychologist and one of the pioneers in the use of play therapy, the approach “provides an opportunity for the child to ‘play out’ his or her feelings and problems just as, in certain adult therapy, an individual ‘talks out’ his or her difficulties.”

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., attend an information session led by Bonnie Harnden and learn more about play therapy and the new summer graduate certificate to be launched in summer 2020 at Concordia.

About Bonnie Harnden

Bonnie Harnden is an associate professor in the Concordia’s Department of Creative Arts Therapies. She is a psychoanalyst, drama therapist and play therapist. She conducts arts-based research on trauma and creates ethnodrama pieces based on her work.

This series of events is led by Guylaine Vaillancourt, associate professor and chair of the Department of Creative Arts Therapies at Concordia, organized in collaboration with Concordia’s Arts in Health Research Collective, and presented with the support of the Health Initiative at Concordia.
