What are the pitfalls to avoid on the path to leadership, especially during these most challenging times?

This event is presented as part of JMSB20, the year-long celebration honouring the 20th anniversary of the renaming of the John Molson School of Business. Each of the four scheduled presentations highlights one of the four research clusters at the business school, in this case, Leadership and management.

Kathleen Boies, PhD, CHRP

Kathleen Boies’s holds the Concordia University Research Chair in Leadership Development and is a professor in the Department of Management. 

Her research focuses on leadership in educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the private industry. 

For more than 20 years, her research has aimed to elucidate the phenomenon of leadership from multiple angles — what makes leaders, what brings someone to follow someone else, how leaders fall, sometimes hard, and how they develop and learn. Her focus is on the individual as a potential leader, and on the lifelong journey that is leadership development.

Rubina Salim-Havlin, BComm 07

A financial services CEO, Board Director and innovator, Rubina has had a lasting impact on the payments and retail banking sector while managing multi-billion portfolios and multidisciplinary teams (500+) across some of the world’s preeminent financial institutions.

Her forward-thinking, entrepreneurial and transformation leadership story includes co-leading the Canadian implementation of chip and pin technology, mobilizing enterprises, and consistently driving shareholder value including doubling assets and delivering 20%+ CAGARs.

Rubina excels at uncovering organizational capacity, driving top and bottom line growth and establishing governance and innovation platforms in the knowledge economy. She is passionate about advising financial services incubators and actively serves on a number of Board of Directors of highly regarded non-profit and for profit enterprises

Ingrid Chadwick

Ingrid Chadwick’s research focuses on determinants of learning and development in individuals and organizations, particularly under challenging situations.

Her work has received provincial and national funding and has been published in leading management journals. She is an active speaker at academic conferences as well as at corporate leadership and entrepreneurship events.
