Central to podcasting on human rights is the question of voice. Researchers and producers not only have to make choices regarding which voices to include but also how and to what extent they should engage the protagonists of a story. We would like to ask: who listens, when, how, why, in what context? In this second session of the series The sound of memory we will discuss radio and podcast projects from South Africa and Latin America that explore multiple interactions and engagements between participants and listeners.

SPEAKERS

SHIRLEY GUNN founded the Human Rights Media Centre (HRMC), a non-profit organization that focuses on the documentation and multi-media dissemination of South African oral history for human rights awareness, education, and activism. She is also a board member on the Khulumani Support Group.

RASMUS N. BITSCH has worked as a freelance journalist/documentary producer for news- and cultural institutions in Europe and South Africa. He is co-founder of the podcast Sound Africa.

JORGE CARABALLO is a journalist and is currently the Growth Editor at Radio Ambulante (a podcast that tells Latin American stories in Spanish) where he leads online and offline engagement initiatives.

CO-CREAR NARRATIVAS

La voz es un tema central en los podcast sobre derechos humanos. Investigadores y productores no solo tienen que elegir qué voces incluir, sino también cómo y hasta qué punto deben involucrar a los protagonistas de una historia. Nos preguntamos: ¿quién escucha, cuándo, cómo, por qué, en qué contexto? En esta segunda sesión de la serie El sonido de la memoria, discutiremos proyectos de radio y podcasts de Sudáfrica y América Latina que exploran múltiples interacciones y diálogos entre participantes y oyentes. 

INVITADOS

SHIRLEY GUNN fundó el Human Rights Media Centre (HRMC), una organización sin ánimo de lucro que se enfoca en la documentación y divulgación multimedia de las historias orales de Sur África para la promoción de los derechos humanos, la educación y el activismo. Es también miembro de la junta del Grupo de Apoyo Khulumani. 

RASMUS N. BITSCH ha trabajado como periodista, productor y documentalista en Europa y Sur África. Es co-fundador del podcast Sound Africa.

JORGE CARABALLO es periodista y actualmente es el Editor de Crecimiento de Radio Ambulante (un podcast que cuenta historias latinoamericanas en español). Coordina iniciativas de participación online y offline con los oyentes.
