Various forms of human-induced change embarks a new geological epoch, so called the “Anthropocene”, in which the human is considered as one of the key forces of nature. This necessitates considering human effects in the environmental process, in particular water cycle, to which human life and socio-economic activities are highly dependent. By looking at some examples, it will be discussed how this new way of thinking can provide a basis for building up new scientific and management tools that can serve human society in the era of change.
